-When I was in 4th grade (I think...it may have been 3rd), I got the game Mancala. I either bought it or it was a present to me. I'm not sure which. I really liked playing this game, and I really enjoyed winning. I had a friend over to the house one day, and we decided to play mancala. This friend had a very different maturity level, and she took the mancala marbles and threw them up in the air, and some of them landed in the vent. My mom was very unhappy with her, and she wasn't allowed to ever come back over to our house.
-The summer after 2nd grade, I had my first sleepover party at my house. I invited my friends Lindsay, Stephanie, Gillian, Elyssa, and Jeanine. I insisted on decorating the downstairs of my house for it. I made a banner that said something like "Anna's Sleepover Party" and made a chain with paper to string it across the wall. I don't remember exactly what we did at the party the first night. I know at one point Gillian found the potpourri in the downstairs bathroom and decided to throw on Lindsay and me and on our sleeping bags. I remember my mom not being very happy about that. I also brought down with me a bunch of my Full House and Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen mystery books so that way if I couldn't fall asleep, I would be able to read. The next morning, we played the game 3rd grade adventures (so maybe this actually happened the summer after 3rd grade...I don't know...) on the computer, but Gillian played with my doll house instead. I remember being slightly upset because I had to rearrange my doll house after that to get it back to how I wanted it to be.
-I think I was in 4th grade when I had a sleepover with just me and Stephanie at my house. We were sleeping on the pull-out bed in the downstairs of my house. We decided to have a sleeping bag race to see who could get to the end of their sleeping bag first. I think Stephanie fell off the end of the pull-out bed, and then she got stuck inside of her sleeping bag, and my mom had to help her out. We also had popcorn that night. Stephanie stopped eating it because she didn't think it tasted very good, but I kept eating it. Later that night, I had to go upstairs to get my mom because I felt so sick. I believe I ended up throwing up a few times, and I slept on the couch upstairs. My friend left early the next morning.
-I remember going to the pool with that same friend. I don't remember if we actually went or not. I think the weather ended up being bad, and we stayed at her house. I just remember that I wanted to take enough dimes so that I could call my mom or dad from the payphone at the pool. I think I took way more dimes than I needed.
-Another time that I slept over at her house, we decided to play video games together in the morning. I had never played before so I had no idea what I was doing. We decided to play a wrestling game, and I kept laughing because I was so bad at it. I laughed incredibly hard when I somehow threw her character out of the ring. I think she did too. I ended up losing the game, but I had a lot of fun doing it.
-When I was in kindergarten, a girl down the block from me had broken her leg. It may have been both because she was in a wheelchair. I remember being slightly envious of her cast because I had no idea what broken legs really were. I remember constantly pretending that I had a broken leg, and I think I begged my dad for a broken leg because I wanted a cast.
-One day, I was at the neighbor girl's house. I think I was 5. We were watching Mary Kate and Ashley's Hawaiian Beach Party at her house on the couch. I sucked my thumb for a number of years, and I tried to suck my thumb there. She told me that I couldn't do that in her house. I remember eventually, I ended up wetting myself because I was too afraid to ask to go to the bathroom after that. I went home before the movie was over. I don't think she ever knew the second part of that because I was too embarrassed.
-For one of my brother's birthday parties, we went to this big interactive play space. I don't remember where it was or what it was called, but I remember that it had tons and tons of McDonald playland type play structure. I was probably 4 at the time, and I was enjoying being in the play structure for a bit. Eventually I got tired, and I wanted to get down. There was a problem, however. I couldn't find my way out. I kept going in circles, and I was panicking because I couldn't get out. They called for the people in my brother's party to come, but I couldn't find my way out. I think eventually my dad had to help me out.
-When I was 5, my dad would take me to McDonalds so that I could play on their indoor playground. He would buy a cup of coffee, and I would play. One time, I met twins, Melissa and Meghan. I thought it was so cool that there were twins, and I became friends with them for that day. Later on, they moved and began going to my elementary school. I was so excited because I thought that I would never see them again. Melissa was in my class, and we became friends. She ended up being in my first grade class as well. Their mom was diagnosed with breast cancer that year. They ended up moving to Wisconsin before the year was through. I remember one day, I was following them around on the playground because I wanted them to play with me. I was so upset because I couldn't understand why they didn't want to play with me, and I grabbed one of their coats. They told a teacher on me, and rather than tell that teacher why I was upset with them, I told her that I was upset because my neighbor had breast cancer, and I was afraid she was going to die. That was not a lie...that was the complete truth. I didn't get into trouble, and my neighbor ended up winning the fight against breast cancer.
-When I was in 1st grade, I began reading the Baby-Sitter's Little Sister series, better known as the Karen Brewer books. I read the book "Karen in Love" where Karen "marries" Ricky on the playground at school. I thought having a wedding would be so cool so I decided to have one. I decided that I should marry Colin. It was only logical to my 6 year old mind. We got a bunch of people together on the playground, and we borrowed the dandelions that Meghan and Melissa had picked for their mom for my bouquet. I think we had a person marry us, and I think I walked down the aisle of my first grade classmates. When we got "married," we ended up kissing each other on the cheek. One of my classmates told my teacher about this, and we got a talk about how that was not acceptable. We were married for a few days where he wanted to do everything for me. I remember he got my gym shoes once for me, and then I decided that I had had enough. I told him that we were getting a divorce. I think I knew what that word meant because of the Karen Brewer books. So we got a divorce, and that was the end of that marriage.
